I've added Option C - per our discussion today
Mike - I've added Option B (let me know if this is what you were thinking?). The bedrooms are still different sizes however - but there is a way to "shrink" the bigger one if we still need to (but it would be a waste of space and harder to frame. Let me know what you think?
Tim,
Mike - Not sure if I follow your last suggestion. We don't want to create more foundation like we were previously thinking and work within the existing perimeter of the house correct? If we were to work within the footprint then a U-Turn stair would likely take up more space. If the main concern is making both rooms the same size I was actually thinking about shifting the closet of bedroom 2 further into the room (making the room smaller and the same as bedroom 1). Then we could just have a lower level roof (like we have on the front side of the garage) - over that corner. Let me know what you think and / or send me a rough sketch of what you were thinking for with the U-Turn Stair. - Thanks.
Tim,
Have you considered putting the stairs against the same wall as the lower stairs? So basically a u-turn going up from the garage up the 4 steps to the rest of the steps. Then the bathroom to the right at the top of the stairs? This might make the bedrooms the same size (keeping the kids from fighting over the bigger room).
I am back from my two day trip to Oregon to get my daughter registered for her classes and getting her a new apartment. This Comment Wall is perfect for items like this but as the drawings get further along we will want to create topic specific Discussion Forums (see above). To respond to your two comments below...

The drawings have been updated - let me know what you think - then I'll get started on the Roof Plan and Elevations.
Is there a doorway under the stairs? We'd like to use that area for storage. But perhaps you have another idea for that space? does the door open into the master closet? that would take away from my closet space. Perhaps a secret room for safe that opens in the garage? Well, please explain.
Hi there, can you put measurements in the drawings? I can't tell how large that walk in closet is. :-) And the rooms upstairs. I want to measure that in comparison to existing rooms to get perspective. Thanks!
