  • There won't be much of a price difference since you need to the structure to support the sales as well - however... we might be able to do it cheaper with a lighter structure (may have to review the ideas I have for this with the structural engineer).

The options that don't extend all the way out (the rectangular designs) will be more expensive than the angular trellis / sail design since the structures aren't as big.

  • I guess Peter still wants to consider the trellis. I like the idea, too. Is there going to be a dramatic price difference?

    The sails look VERY cool!
  • I've added B2.2 - (C+D) Options for Roof Plan which shows actually 4 different new options for fabric shades instead of just a trellis shade.  All of these options are retractable in terms of the fabric.  In both Options C and D one side of each option shows (1) triangular sail fabric option and (1) rectangular billowing fabric option.  Let me know which option you prefer between C+D and between the triangle or rectangular fabric options.

  • Yes there is a sliding glass door on the west side.  The windows are about 5'x4' for the larger ones.  I'll get a few structural engineers to get us a proposal.  As for the new overhangs - we would just remove some of the "trellis" elements in favor of the sails.  The interior shades are called Mecho Shade = www.mechoshade.com

  • Also...do we have a sliding glass door in the studio for access to the porch? And what size windows have been specified in the two rooms. I am all about windows. :-)

  • House looks good. Would love to get that to the engineer asap. As far as the back...I like how it looks but I thought we had decided on doing some kind of sail that was retractable?

One other quick question. You mentioned silk shades for the inside of the house...a designer had mentioned them also. Trying to find them. Any thoughts?

  • Currently the upper deck is 7' 8" wide. I would like to keep it close to that (top surface area) plus the planters. It looks like it might have been made wider? But I am not sure.

  • PS...It's Goglia...not Golia.

Also...I am not sure if you remember, but the roof of the garage is actually a few feet higher that the top hallway. So, there will have to be a stairs there somewhere.

Conceptual Design

I've added the Conceptual Floor Plan to the "Pages" section of the Project page. Raised Deck shown with planter around it (so you don't need a guardrail) Deck shown with planter around it 30" lower on South side (so you don't need a guardrail) Pool shown on East Side with Negative edge New counter (and upper cabinets are shown) in place of one of the entry closets (let me know if you need a bar sink?) Two bedroom suites added (roughly 11'x11' bedrooms) with their own baths and closets…
