Interior Elevations and Details

Tim,

I'd like to touch base on the following:

--- replies below

1) How the new wall blocking the pulleys will look like to allow one or possibly two openings for light to come through from above

--- I always visualized these to be tall but slender openings.  This will minimize the view but still provide light and enough wall space for each pully.  It would depend on the number of openings vs the number of pully stations (and the required width for each station).

2) Design of the water feature, materials for construction, where do we get it, modifying design to ensure that water is extremely quite/soft at the lowest setting, control switches, etc.

--- I'll need to talk to the mason sub-contractor to work out the exact details on this, however the flow of water can be limited (and quiet) based on the water flow.  If we can restrict the flow the more quite/soft will will be - think of it like a dimmer system for the water.

3) Open wall behind Admin counter with floating shelves - where to get top shelf that is long enough to extend over the top (might need to fabricate and laminate) and 2 floating shelves (laminate wood grained, solid color, etc.)

--- Are you thinking about floating shelves with no wall at all (this is possible to do - you can have them supported with rods) ?? - or to keep it as designed with the shelves floating (attached to the wall)?

4) Areas for down lightning (if needed to accent wall)

--- See new pictures addes (new page to the right of the discussions).  You can see other versions of hanging lights and even desks lights.

5) Cove lighting above the Admin counter top may not be noticeable in daylight during business hours so may not provide the effect we're after. Also I'm not completely visualizing the look of these two sheet rocked coves jutting out in the middle of the room.

--- We can provide some color to these lights and they will be noticable.  If you are in the Walnut Creek area you can see this office in person (it is hard to get a good photo of it).

6) Thoughts on simple moulding between the ceiling and walls.

--- Thinking about small sheet-rock details - cheaper and cleaner than millwork.  I'll have to go over this with the drywall sub-contractor then we can come up with a more definative design (based on what he may charge to do the details).

  • Tim/Ed,

Do the sconces for the hallway and bathroom have to be Title 24 compliant or can I use any light that takes a regular light bulb, CFC, Incandescent?

The outdoor lighting as I'm told need to be Title 24, pull out bulbs?

    ----------

The hallways can be incandecent as can the bathrooms.  The rule for the bathrooms is that the primary light source must be flourescent (others in the bathroom can be incandecent) ---- and we have compact flourescent in the ceiling.  You can also have no flourescent in the bathrooms if the switch is an occupancy sensor.  The exterior lights (the main one when you exit a door) has to be flourescent or on a motion sensor.

  • Alton,

You have to be careful for a sconce on the diagonal wall.  It maybe too much of a focal point.  I would suggest a picture - with a picture light instead.

    Tim,

What do you think about adding another sconce along the diagonal wall on Tx room #3 since it's turning down the hallway and would be across from the reception frosted door?

  • Alton,

I think it is fine to use the different sizes for the hall vs the bath.  They also look similar enough where they fit the same theme.  For the floating sink - I actually often don't put fixtures above the mirror - but use two fixtures side by side --- so you don't get shadows under your eyes from the high light source.  You can also do both and if you do have a fixture above a mirror then it should be a horizonal fixture.

    Tim,

    I was thinking of placing the #3 in the hallways since the size is larger (12" H x 8" W x 4" D) and use #2 sconce (7" H x 7" W x 2.75" D) in the ADA bathroom flanking a vertical bevelled mirror (30" W x 72" H) that would go from the top of the floating sink to the ceiling.

    Thoughts on this?

  • Alton,
I like options 2 and 3 below. #1 is too simplistic. #4 won't produce much light at all but it is attactive and can be used in smaller spaces.
As for the steel track lighting suspending the pendents - I think the ceiling is too low for this. I would just hang the pendants from the ceiling itself without the track. This will also put more emphasis (and not compete with) - the LED cove light detail on the ceiling.

Here are some sconces that I looked at at first pass for the hallway. Thoughts for the hallway and bathroom?
I'm trying to find lights that use incandescent of CFL or low energy/wattage if they are going to be on all day.
See what you think and feel free to throw some other samples for thought.

I was also thinking of 2 or 3 pendant lights on top of the reception counter. What do you think of having a drop down stainless steel metal track from the ceiling that holds these pendant lights? You can shape the track to follow the angle of the reception counter and drop 3 pendants off of it.

  • Alton - I've added an updated drawing to Allylocal.com but I don't have the accurate current wall locations for the treatment rooms (what I have is based on Ed's orginal drawings and may need to be verified in field).  I did remove the Laundry Room wall and added 6" to the Reception.  The opening to the reception has been noted in not "B" in the window schedule.

As for ADA door - the 90 degree wall can be shifted to the right to increase the diagonal distance as required.

  • Tim,

Last thought for the night, Ed mentioned that you had to change the lay out for the reception lobby door and wall leading to the hallway due to the City not considering it ADA because the door does not swing completely open. What is the status on this? Are we going to have to change the way this wall is built at a diagonal to accomodate a full opening door or not?

Ed mentioned that the hallway space at this 45 degree turn will actually not be 5'-3" as shown on the drawing but more like 4'-9".

    What are your thoughts?

  • Tim,

Can you also add that the reception lobby counter and window starts 40 inches from the floor and the window is 30" W x 48" H.

Ed and I still need to confirm the actual build out of this wall with a larger sill area for the counter top.

I'm thinking to make this wall thicker and recessed the window further in so that the exterior wall has more room to create this sill and ledge for counter. Is this what you were thinking too?

  • TIm,

Please modify drawings for item 2 and 8 above.

Ed will put up some crown samples when the time comes for sheet rock and we can decide then.
