Attic and Play Lofts (including Secret Room)

Hi Tim
How big is the attic going to be?
Could we make it bright and cozy not dark and spooky?

Since we are doing a Tuscan home the roof pitch will be low, unlike an English or French Country which could have a steep pitch and dormers.   We also are doing high ceilings in the house which means the attic can't be very tall (since we have to stay under a 35ft height limit).  This doesn't mean that the attic will be dark and spooky though.   One of the houses that we visited in Ruby Hill (the Wilmore Residence) has a large attic play area of which an entire train station (large play set) that was built for Mel's grand-kids.   This house (like yours) is a Mediterranean design with a shallow roof pitch.   We won't know for sure how the attic will work until we do a roof plan (which is next after we nail down the floor plans) + also getting a structural engineer and later getting some layouts from the truss manufacturer.
